EMBRACING YOUR IMPERFECTIONS
Will better your life….. 100% guaranteed!
PERFECTION means “the condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects.
As someone who has been a “perfectionist” in the past, I wanted to address this topic to support you into changing your perspective and ultimately embracing your imperfections.
There is a common, global misconception that everything, and everybody has to be PERFECT to be happy. Social media and the underlying messages in many of the media we are exposed to, are telling us that we need to look, act and behave flawlessly for acceptance.
Without being aware of it, we begin to judge ourselves, our lives and even our future. We can easily fall into a comparison cycle, measuring the quality of our reality with that of those around us – in our social circle and even with celebrities, social media and “influencers”.
COMPARISON AND STRIVING FOR PERFECTION ARE TWO MAJOR CAUSES OF BEING IN A SUFFERING STATE OF LOW SELF ESTEEM.
Even the smallest bit of comparison can lead to negative self-image, discontent with the good life we DO have, the efforts we are making towards self-improvement and a TON of other mental and physical ailments.
The real issue arises when comparison gets out of control and the drive to be perfect and thus to control takes over. The more we do it, the more distorted our views become, ultimately leading us to devalue ourselves and all the GOOD we do bring to the world. We then start to live from the mind only, because there we think we can control everything, while emotions seem so ungraspable and out of control, right? This is truly one of the root causes for stress, depression and burnout.
FOR EVERYTHING WE DO AND THINK WE HAVE A CHOICE
Meaning that if you can choose to ENGAGE in your thoughts, you CAN also CHOOSE to STOP as well!
Before we do or think anything, we need to commit ourselves. We need to commit to our mental and physical health. We need to commit to being KIND to ourselves and ACCEPTING who we are and the life we have. After all, we are all BEAUTIFUL, UNIQUE, SPECIAL people who have a LOT to offer, whether we realize it or not!
Flaws in our bodies, minds and lives are normal. Imperfections make us unique. Add flaws and imperfections together, and they make us pretty awesome and interesting. It is like shadow and light, we need them both to be able to sparkle.
It took me long time to come to terms with the fact that striving for "perfection" is exhausting and unrealistic and comparing my life to others does me NO GOOD!
In our quest to reach our own unattainable high standards, we slow down our ability to move forward in life. We often lose our sense of adventure and spontaneity. We miss opportunities and oftentimes, lose the beautiful quirks and qualities that make us special.
PERFECTION is nothing but an illusion. A concept we create in our mind. Perfection leads to so much tension and it prevents our energy, intuition and creativity from flowing, it stops spontaneity to take place and it stops our growth. Like a child, we can only learn through falling and getting up on our feet….
Acknowledging and embracing our imperfections can teach us so much about who we truly are and how WE want to live our lives on our TERMS.
HOW TO EMBRACE IMPERFECTION AND STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS:
Allow yourself to be vulnerable
Acknowledge your strengths
Share your doubts, fears, and insecurities
Stay true to YOUR beliefs and values and live them out daily
When we allow ourselves to let our guards down and let people in- that is when we can truly start to LIVE and GROW.
My main insight in embracing my imperfections was the belief modeled from highly successful people, from the world of NLP: there is no failure or mistake, there is only learning.
And, the other insight was that my need for control and perfection came from an old limiting belief that I wasn’t good enough. And seeing where that belief came from and how it also helped me to raise my standards and be who I am today, I also now know that there is no need for it anymore so I can CHOOSE to LET IT GO and replace it with the belief that I accept myself with all my pro’s and con’s.
I embrace the fact that am perfectly imperfect and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I hope and wish you can do the same!
